UN condemns assassination attempt against Iqaq PM Mustafa al-Kadhimi

United Nations has Sunday condemned the attempted assassination of the Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi that occurred today morning at his home.
“UN Assistance Mission (UNAMI) condemns in the strongest terms the assassination attempt against PM Mustafa al-Kadhimi!” said a tweet on Sunday.
Many countries including France and the US have issued statements condemning the incident that took place in the capital Baghdad a few weeks after a general election allegedly disrupted by Iran-backed militia group.
“France fully supports the democratic process in Iraq, recently marked by the satisfactory organisation of legislative election of the Iraqi govenment, said the statement
“France condemns in the strongest terms the the attempts of assassination of the Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi at his home on Sunday morning,” added the statement.
Amidst raising tension in the oil rich country, PM Mustafa al-Kadhimi after surviving a drone attack called for “calm and restraint’, said reporters.
Atleast six people from the PM’s security were injured in the Sunday incident, Agencies said.
