Over 3, 200 have succumbed to COVID-19

More than 3, 200 mostly Chinese had been killed by COVID-19 by press time as the Government of Rwanda discourages body contact including hand shaking and hugging as one of the preventive measures against the deadly disease.
Death toll in China clocked 3,015 deaths while 267 deaths were recorded in other parts of the world mostly Iran and Italy.
Some African countries like Egypt, Algeria, Cameroon Nigeria, Senegal and South Africa have already tested the wrath of Covid-19. Though Rwanda has not registered any case of the disease the country is on high alert and has stepped up awareness campaign and preparedness.
“No case of Coronavirus has been reported in Rwanda so far. However, given the severity of the epidemic and rapidity with which it spreads, we urge all Rwandans to take appropriate precautions and follow the advice of health professionals,” said a statement issued by the Government of Rwanda.
The international community is appealing for US$675 million to bolster preparedness and response especially in countries with weak health systems and UN Humanitarian Chief Mark Lowcock gave US$15 million to WHO and UNICEF towards the containment of COVID-19 virus.
