Burundian electoral commission declares Gen. Ndayishimiye winner of poll

Gen. Evariste Ndayishimiye, the flag bearer for the ruling National Council for the Defense of Democracy and the Forces for the Defense of Democracy (CNDD-FDD) has today been declared winner of the May 2020 Presidential election by the country’s electoral commission.
Ndayishimiye garnered 68,72% of the vote against the main opposition candidate Agathon Rwasa and leader of National Freedom Council (CNL) who trailed far behind with 24,19%
Rwasa proclaimed himself winner of the election last week sparking widespread suspicion of massive rigging across the country.
