By George Kalisa

Eritrea cycling team has been disqualified from the Tour du Rwanda 2022, citing reluctance to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Of the 55 nations making up the African Continent, Eritrea has not vaccinated her people.

“Eritrea national cycling team will not take part of the 2022 Tour du Rwanda because it cannot meet the health requirements requested by organisation,” the organizers said through a tweet.

Cyclists from the Horn of Africa nation have an exciting record of performance in this race, with cyclists topping the 2019/2022 race.

In another development, Rwanda has been awarded the opportunity to host the Road World Championship scheduled 2025, and will be the first African country to host this event.

Only started in 1988, Tour du Rwanda is one of the popular sports events in the East African Community country and it has been part of the UCI Africa Tour since 2009.
