Mozambique’s President Filipe Nyusi and President Paul Kagame today discussed “the good progress” of the current cooperation between the two African countries particularly the restoration of peace in the Mozambican Northern Province of Cabo Delgado.
For close five years, this Province has been engulfed by conflict and violent attacks by militants linked to Al Shaabab leading to the displacement of some 800,000 civilians including women and children as of mid 2021 according to UNHCR report.
“This morning in Kigali, President Kagame received President Nyusi for a meeting during which they discussed the good progress that has been made between Rwanda & Mozambique in the ongoing cooperation towards securing Cabo Delgado as well as other areas of bilateral collaboration,” said a statement from Urugwiro Village today.
On the invitation of Mozambican government, Rwanda deployed a 1,000 troop contingent in July 2021 of the Rwanda National Police (RNP) and the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) to help deliver the war-ravaged Province from terrorist activities that included torching houses and killing of innocent civilians.
Today, there is hope that total peace will return to the region and schools have reopened as many people are returning to their homes.
President Paul Kagame visited the country last September and was pleased with contribution of the Rwandan contingent towards the return of peace to this region.
