Burundi blocks Apôtre Mignonne’s conference

By George Kalisa

Burundian authorities blocked Rwandan Pastor’s conference the very day it was scheduled to commence citing inconsistences in the activities of this Christian meeting.

The conference dubbed Connect Africa Conference’ that would have taken place in the Burundian capital, Bujumbura, was supported and organized by the New Creation Church in partnership with the Women Foundation Ministries (WFM).

Apôtre Mignonne Alice Kabera leads the WFM and was one of the people that would minister to the participants.

The Pastors’ fate is traced to programme adjustment that saw a concert  added, which Christians would access by paying UD50 (approx. 200,000FB)

The Security Minister there says the concert was not initially included among the activities of the conference.

“In reference to the letter the conference organizers wrote to us on August 28, 2023, we had awarded them permission to hold the Connect Africa Conference 2023 between September15-17, 2023. We regret to inform you that the permission has been cancelled,” said the letter released September 15 by the office of the Security Minister.

The cancellation has followed serious scrutiny that you intended to deviate from the reasons for the conference that you presented in your application letter,” said Martin Ninteretse, the Burundian Security Minister.

“They had said that the conference was exclusively organized to preach the Word of God,” added Ninteretse. Over 5,000 people had registered for the conference.
