Again, women dominate Rwandan Parliament with 63.8%

Rwandan women in the Chamber of Deputies went up to 63.8 per cent from about 61% according to results of the 2024 Parliamentary elections released by the National Electoral Commission (NEC). There were 80 seats for slot in Parliament shared between political parties, including seats reserved for women under affirmative action.
Notably, the Rwandan Constitution enshrines 30% that corresponds to some 24 seats for women, voted through the electoral colleges. Out of the 53 seats, women won 27.
In addition, there are 13 women sitting on a 32-member Cabinet.
Rwanda has for some time been a world leader in women in decision-making positions according to some reports including Women in Parliament 2021 that was published by the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
Meanwhile, the ruling RPF-Inkotanyi party and allied parties pulled a vast majority of 37 MPs according to the election results. The Liberal Party (PL) and the Social Democratic Party (PSD) followed with five each while PS IMberakuri, the Ideal Democratic Party (PDI) and the Democratic Green Party Rwanda (DGPR) finished the race with two each.
Independent Philippe Mpayimana may not go to Parliament according to the results. He got 0.32 per cent of the vote.
