Rwanda’s senior Govt officials forego April salary towards fight against COVID-19 pandemic

Rwanda’s Office of the Prime Minister on April5 announced that in the spirit of fighting against COVID-19 and in solidarity with the most affected Rwandans Cabinet members and senior government servants will give out their April salary.

The government said the move is not aimed at replacing ongoing social protection programmes, but to complement them as the scale of the crisis is very high.  

In the context of the fight against COVID-19, and in solidarity with the most affected Rwandans the government of Rwanda has decided, over and above ongoing social protection initiatives that all Cabinet members, Permanent Secretaries, Head of Institutions, and other senior officials shall forfeit one month’s salary (April),” said the announcement from the Office of the Prime Minister.

“We thank all Rwandans for their continued support and adherence to the measures announced by the government against COVID-19,” it added.
