Gen. Muhoozi Vows to Flush out Gen. Kayumba’s RNC Rebels from Uganda

By George Kalisa
Gen. Muhoozi. Lt. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the SPA/SO and Commander of Land Forces (UPDF) and son of Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni has today vowed to flush out Gen. Faustin Kayumba Nyamwasa’s rebel group, Rwanda National Congress (RNC). Rwanda declared RNC a terrorist group.
Rwanda has always accused her northern neighbor and long time ally, Uganda led by President Yoweri Museveni of hosting and variously supporting the RNC along enhancing activities aimed at destabilizing Rwanda. Uganda has frequently denied the accusations.
“General Kayumba and RNC, I don’t know what problems you had in Rwanda with the mainstream RPF/RDF? But I warn you not to dare use my country for your adventures!” said Gen. Muhoozi via his official tweeter account today.
He said the illegal and criminal activities previously carried out on Ugandan territory by RNC rebel outfit were going to lead Rwanda and Uganda to a “stupid war”.
Grave violation of human rights of Rwandan nationals on Ugandan soils and hosting RNC activities, a rebel group based in South Africa, are some of the reasons at the core of the severe diplomatic ties between Uganda, now three years.
About a month now, signs of recovering relations have been awash both the regional and international media. For example, Gen. Muhoozi visited Rwandan President Paul Kagame in attempts to repair the relations between the two countries that have been cold for more than three years.
The Gatuna/Katuna common border post has also been closed during that period until recently, a development attributed to Gen. Muhoozi’s visit and fruitful discussions by many political pundits in the region.
“This is not about political points. I have no interest in politics. The illegal and criminal activities of RNC in Uganda in the past were driving us to a stupid war! All those who were involved in that deceitful enterprise will be found out!” added
Rwanda frequently accused Uganda of arbitrary arrests, detentions, torture among other human rights violations against Rwandan nationals on Ugandan soils. Also, Rwanda accuses Uganda of supporting negative agents whose sole aim is to destabilize the stability of Rwanda.
Uganda denies all the accusations and instead accuses her neighbour of carrying out espionage on her territory.
