Russian military are reported to be about 6 miles away from the Ukraine capital, Kyiv on the second day into the raging war between Russia and Ukraine. Dozens of American nationals are fleeing the city.
Gunfire has rocked Kyiv since morning and overnight the city was hit by blasts.
Russia has exploited various fronts to advance towards the capital with her soldiers attacking from the north, south and east.
Clashes have been reported between the two sides, with Ukrainian forces blowing up a bridge in an attempt to slow Russia’s advance. Western intelligence officials warned earlier that Russia was building an “overwhelming force” to take control of the city.
Citizens in the northern Obolon district were told to stay at home to avoid “active military operations” by city officials on Friday, Reuters adds. Obolon is the same area where it appeared tanks were filmed earlier in the day.
Meanwhile reporters have said US has deployed about 700 troops in a European nation neighbouring Russia.
