Doors are still open to all Rwandans in self-exile

Tens of thousands of Rwandans have voluntarily returned to Rwanda and the Kigali administration massively invested in the reintegration of returnees during the last 30 years. Among the returnees include Rwandans that sought refuge in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Nonetheless, many Rwandans are still living in the DRC, some nursing the dream of destabilizing Rwanda.

One of President Paul Kagame’s major assignments in the fourth term is to ensure that Rwandans in DRC repatriate peacefully. The President promised to integrate them into community and Kigali will help them train in the jobs of their choice.

The President said those who chose to stay could have want to cause problems.  

“You remember when I first visited you in 1996, one part of Rwandans was here, while another was at the opposite shores in DRC. I told you that we wanted those Rwandans to repatriate, and peacefully,” Kagame remarked on June 30, 2024 during his Presidential rally in Karongi.

Kagame won the July 15, 2024 Presidential polls with 99.18 per cent according to provisional results released by the National Electoral Commission (NEC) this week .     

 “Indeed, we repatriated them. Many repatriated and a few who wanted to cause problems remained and are still there but some may have gone to other places,” Kagame told a huge gathering that convened at Mbonwa Stadium for his campaign rally, local media reported.

“All those that are remaining will also come back, and peacefully. We shall reintegrate them in the community and train them to do the work of their choice.”

Meanwhile, the citizens in Karongi expressed gratitude to Kagame for his efforts in uplifting the wellbeing of the Rwandan people.

“Kagame introduced a beautiful card without ethnic belonging, but a card with a mention: do not fall critically sick, the health insurance card,” said Dr Sabin Nsanzimana, the Minister of Health. Nsanzimana, a son of the area said that some in the past Rwanda walked bare foot for they could afford shoes, and the country was struggling with critical health issues.

The Doctor made special mention of the introduction of Community Health Workers (CHWs) who voluntarily provide basic health services and help them access the health centres whenever necessary.
