Naomie Nishimwe a Senior Six graduate also Number 31 was on the night of February22 declared the winner of Miss Rwanda beauty pageant. Nishimwe who takes over from Miss Meghan Nimwiza had the winning project out of the 19 contestants in a competition described as “the hottest”.
The moving event took place at Intare Conference Arena in Rusororo at the peripheral of the Rwandan capital, Kigali.
Wild excitement and applause descended the fully parked Intare Conference Arena when the jury declared Miss Noamie Nishimwe, a victory that made her enter a new social status where she owns a brand new car – Suzuki Swift on the bill of Rwanda Motor and entitled to a salary of Rwf8,000 for the next 12 months among other awards.
In addition, Nishimwe took home Rwf1.2 million for winning the Miss Photogenic title. Miss Nishimwe will also represent Rwanda in the Miss World 2020.
Umwiza Phionah and Umutesi Denise are first and second runner-up this year and won Rwf1.2 each.
A wild rumour that MTN Rwanda the major sponsor of Miss Rwanda2020 had supported her, sparked widespread speculation about her victory and questions over the credibility of this annual beauty competition.
The jury of this year’s beauty contest constituted of James Munyaneza, Jolly Mutesi, Sherrie Silver, Evelyne Umererwa and Diogene Ntarindwa, who headed the team.
