Rwanda has today registered a record high of new cases of the novel Coronavirus since March14 when the first cases were confirmed. The 101 new cases identified today after testing 2,498 have led to high jump from 900 to now 1001.
Rwanda’s Health Ministry has attributed the sharp rise in COVID-19 cases to a previous link with COVID-19 patients at Rusumo in Southeastern Rwanda.
The ministry adds that the 72 who have tested positive for COVID-19 are part of a cluster in a detention centre in Ngoma District that trace their contacts with the Rusumo cases.
The City of Kigali has recorded 22 – unusually high compared with the previous numbers.
There was, however, a drop in cases in the border districts of Rusizi and Rubavu that are still under quarantine recording 3 and 2 cases respectively.
Kayonza and Kirehe District identified one case of COVID-19 each today.
